Position: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Assistant
Location: Maroua, Far North Region, Cameroon
Contract Duration: 15 months

SEMBE is a woman-led civil society organization operating in the Far North Region of Cameroon since 2017. Our mission is to strengthen the resilience of conflict-affected communities through community-driven, inclusive, and sustainable solutions, with a strong focus on youth and gender equality.
Project Background
SEMBE is implementing Phase II of a mental health project funded by Grand Challenges Canada, aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people affected by the Boko Haram crisis in the Far North Region of Cameroon.
Position Summary
The MHPSS Assistant will support the implementation of mental health and psychosocial support activities at community and school levels. The role involves close collaboration with community actors, lay counsellors, teachers, and youth. Strong knowledge of the Far North context and prior experience working in the region are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the establishment and functioning of community listening cells and school mental health clubs.
- Assist in the delivery of MHPSS awareness-raising activities and community sensitization sessions.
- Support lay counsellors, community social workers, and teachers during program implementation.
- Assist with basic data collection, documentation, and reporting of MHPSS activities.
- Participate in trainings, supervision sessions, and coordination meetings.
- Support referrals of beneficiaries to appropriate mental health services when needed.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, public health, education, or a related field.
- At least 1–2 years of experience supporting MHPSS or community-based programs.
- Prior experience working in the Far North Region of Cameroon with strong understanding of the local context.
- Ability to communicate effectively in French; knowledge of English and local languages is an advantage.
