SEMBE is a woman-led civil society organization based in Maroua, Far North Cameroon, and recognized under Cameroonian law (N° 061/2020/RDA/K22/SAAJP du 18 juin 2020). Founded by journalist and humanitarian worker Ms. Agha-Nwi Fru, SEMBE—meaning “strength” in the local Fulfulde language—works at the intersection of mental health, youth empowerment, gender equality, climate resilience, and community wellbeing.

Despite operating in emergency contexts marked by displacement, insecurity, and underfunding, SEMBE has delivered impactful, community-driven initiatives.
Highlights include
Youth Mental Health Project
The Youth Mental Health Project, which established wellbeing centers, trained community actors, and provided free counseling to over 8,000 youth, with 71% reporting improved wellbeing between 2021 and 2025;
Sembe Pap Nutrition Project
The Sembe Pap Nutrition Project, which reached 600 vulnerable people with a locally produced enriched flour (pap), achieving a 78% recovery rate from moderate acute malnutrition for children below five, pregnant and lactating women, elderly persons above 60.
Sahel Girls Power Project
The Sahel Girls Power Project which launched the Debbo Rewdo Girls Empowerment Manual, supported girls’ education in six conflict-affected communities, and provided school fees and didactic materials girls from vulnerable backgrounds.
