MHPSS Officer

SEMBE is a woman-led civil society organization operating in the Far North Region of Cameroon since 2017. Our mission is to build resilience in conflict-affected communities by supporting them to develop lasting, community-driven solutions to their challenges.
Project Background
SEMBE is implementing Phase III of a mental health project funded by Grand Challenges Canada, aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people affected by the Boko Haram crisis. The project focuses on community-based psychosocial support, youth-friendly mental health services, and stigma reduction.
Position Summary
The MHPSS Officer will support and oversee the delivery of high-quality mental health and psychosocial support services for young people aged 10–24 years. The role requires strong contextual knowledge of the Far North Region and experience working in conflict and displacement settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate community psychosocial networks, including listening cells and school mental health clubs.
- Supervise community social workers, lay counsellors, teachers, and psychologists.
- Lead MHPSS awareness-raising and capacity-building activities.
- Support data collection, analysis, and documentation of MHPSS activities.
- Liaise with government services, partners, and regional mental health platforms.
- Contribute to the revision and adaptation of MHPSS toolkits in English and French.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or professional qualification in MHPSS, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in MHPSS programming in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Proven experience working in the Far North Region of Cameroon with strong contextual understanding.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and French.
